Does a ten gallon hat hold water

We tested this to find out if a Cowboy hat will transfer ten gallons of water without leaking. It took 18 hatloads to fill two five gallon buckets with water from a Waterfall. The cowboy hat did not leak!

You can try this yourself. It held nine cups of water per hatful. The Stetson #1 quality hat did not leak through from the inside, to the outside. It had no inner liner.

Not only was the outside of the hat dry, but also it was dry inside behind the hatband after moving ten gallons of water.

With the inside of the hat was still wet, the crown was recreased and the hatband turned down to dry. After the hat dried, the hat was brushed out and looks as good as it has for years.

This is truly an example of a “Ten Gallon Hat!”
